🌟 Craft the Story & Forge Connections - Marketing & Business Development Manager! 🚀

Are you an AEC marketing professional who takes pride in cranking out a polished proposal and then turning around to walk into a client meeting with confidence? Do you love the craft of pursuit work AND the energy of business development - and not feel like you need to be running a department to feel fulfilled? This might be exactly the role for you.

Holmes US is looking for a Marketing & Business Development Manager to join our collaborative MBD team. This is a hands-on role for someone who is self-directed, highly capable, and genuinely energised by doing great work.

Who We Are: We're Holmes US - an international design firm where engineering meets innovation! With offices across the West Coast and roots in New Zealand, we're known for pushing boundaries and asking "why not?" when others say "impossible."

Our US practice specialises in structural and fire protection engineering consulting - partnering with architects, developers, and project teams to solve complex challenges from the ground up.

About the Role:

You'll be one of a few key people on our MBD team, working alongside a group that spans marketing, business development, and strategy. In this role, the "Manager" title reflects the level of ownership and autonomy you'll bring to your work - you'll run your own pursuits, contribute to client relationships, and operate with a high degree of independence while contributing to a close-knit, collaborative team.

What makes this role unique is its flexibility. Whether you naturally lean more towards the craft of marketing production or the relationship-building side of business development, we want to hear from you. What matters is that you're genuinely able and willing to do both - rolling up your sleeves on a proposal one afternoon and representing Holmes at a client dinner that evening.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Owning pursuit efforts end-to-end - from pre-positioning through to proposal submission and presentations
  • Producing high-quality proposals, qualifications packages, and marketing collateral at pace and with polish
  • Building and nurturing relationships with clients, partners, and industry contacts
  • Developing compelling project narratives, award submissions, and thought leadership content
  • Conducting market research and competitive intelligence to inform pursuit strategies
  • Supporting conferences, sponsorships, and firm events
  • Collaborating closely with technical staff and firm leadership to bring pursuits to life
  • Maybe even picking up some Māori words from our Kiwi colleagues!

You'll Thrive Here If You:

  • Have 7+ years of AEC marketing and/or BD experience and are still energised by doing the work directly
  • Are skilled in Adobe InDesign and confident across the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Know the AEC world well - the language, the processes, the rhythms of a pursuit cycle
  • Are an exceptional writer and editor with a strong eye for design
  • Can produce polished, compelling work under tight deadlines without losing your cool
  • Are equally comfortable at your desk building a proposal and in a room building a relationship
  • Are self-motivated and take ownership of your work without needing a lot of hand-holding
  • Bring strategic thinking to your individual pursuits without needing to set the strategy for the whole firm

Why You'll Love It Here:

🌟 Impact & Influence

  • Own your pursuits and see your work directly contribute to winning projects
  • Be a trusted voice in how Holmes shows up in the market
  • Work across diverse, exciting projects and sectors
  • Partner with passionate technical leaders who genuinely value what you do

✏️ Creative Freedom

  • Craft narratives and design materials that reflect your own expertise and style
  • Bring your BD instincts to how we position and tell our story
  • Find your own balance between production and relationship-building
  • Make your mark as a confident, self-directed individual contributor

🎯 The Good Stuff

  • Flexible hybrid work environment
  • Comprehensive benefits (including pet insurance!)
  • Genuine work-life balance
  • Collaborative, supportive culture
  • Regular team events and activities

Benefits Offered:

Depending on your employment status, benefits may include:

  • Hybrid work model (3 days in office - Tues, Wed, Thurs)
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, AD&D, Short-term and Long-term Disability and other voluntary plans

Compensation: Estimated starting at $95,000 - $122,000 + biannual profit share bonus potential. Salary will be commensurate with experience, skills, and location.

Our Commitment: At Holmes, we believe in building teams as diverse as the communities we serve. We provide equal support and opportunities for all our people to thrive, grow, and develop. Dream big - we'll help you get there!
