Project Engineer - Natural Hazards Risk Assessments

Seattle, WA
Full Time
Seattle Office
Mid Level

Ready to help communities prepare for the hazards of today - and tomorrow?

We're looking for a Structural Engineer to join our Natural Hazards Risk Assessment team. This role combines technical project work with real-world impact - evaluating flood, wind, wildfire, earthquake, extreme temperature, and drought hazards for buildings and communities, and developing the mitigation and adaptation strategies that make them more resilient. If you're a structural engineer ready to do work that genuinely matters, let's talk!

Who We Are
We're Holmes US - a structural engineering firm that's anything but boring! With offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and roots in New Zealand, we're known for taking on complex, high-impact projects that push the boundaries of structural engineering. Our Natural Hazards team sits at the intersection of structural expertise and climate resilience, helping buildings and communities withstand the forces shaping our world.

Your Impact

  • Perform structural vulnerability assessments of existing buildings and sites across multiple natural hazard types
  • Develop structural mitigation and adaptation solutions for identified vulnerabilities
  • Develop climate-informed structural design criteria for new buildings
  • Communicate risk assessment findings clearly and confidently to clients
  • Prepare structural design solutions for mitigation projects
  • Perform post-event structural damage assessments and design repairs
  • Prepare high-quality written reports that translate complex technical findings into actionable recommendations

You'll Thrive Here If You Have

  • A B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering and 3+ years of relevant structural engineering experience
  • PE licence
  • Solid grounding in structural analysis and building performance under load - seismic, wind, flood, or otherwise
  • Prior natural hazards experience (particularly flood) is a plus, but not required - we value fast learners
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce and critically review technical reports
  • Confidence presenting findings to clients and contributing to team talks and technical sessions
  • A pragmatic, resourceful, ambitious mindset with a hunger to take on new responsibilities
